During a press conference that took place yesterday afternoon, Mr Green said: ‘These acts, when combined, amount to intimidation and obstruction. If the president is not above the law he should be charged by way of impeachment by the US House of Representatives.’
He added: ‘Our country is in a state of crisis. Every day Donald Trump remains president puts our democracy at risk. It’s time to take drastic, yet necessary action.’
Green initially said Monday he would wait a few weeks before starting the impeachment process, KHOU Houston reported.
“It’s not the political expedient thing to do, this is what we must do to maintain our democracy,” Green said.
“A good many people assume that impeachment means that the President will be found guilty. It does not. Impeachment is the genesis of the process. The revelation are likely to be revealed in the Senate and that’s where the trial actually takes place.”
The calls for the impeachment of Donald Trump have escalated this week after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey,. This action rasied questions about the independence of the FBI’s investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia in last year’s presidential election.
After firing Comey, Trump was accused by many of obstruction of justice and people began to call for his impeachment.
It then emerged that Trump had asked for the former FBI Director to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

And to top all that, last nigh it was revealed that Trump had divulged highly classified material to high ranking Russians in a meeting that took place in the Oval Office. The Russians deny this happening.
Trump took to Twitter to defend his actions.
As you will be aware, impeachment is part of the US constitution and allows formal charges to be brought against any civil officer of the government for alleged crimes they have committed.
The law states: ‘The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.’
This is only the first in a long chain of events that would need to take place for President Trump to be removed from his position as President.
